John Gugenheim, Jr., M.D., specializes in the Ilizarov method of limb reconstruction, treating adults and children for defor- mities, nonunions, bone infections, and limb length discrepancy. He also special-izes in pediatric orthopedics.

Credited with more than thirty academic productions–including original scientific publications, book chapters, meetings and presentations, and national and inter-national symposiums–Dr. Gugenheim is a graduate of Rice University in Houston and Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago. He completed his internship in general surgery at Evanston Hospital in Evanston, Illinois, an affiliated program of Northwestern University, and his residency in orthopedic surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, where he earned the Victoria David Award in Orthopedics. Dr. Gugenheim completed his fellowship at Children’s Hospital Medical Center Harvard Medical School Boston.

Lori Karol, M.D. has been on the staff at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children for nineteen years. A native of Michigan, she graduated from the University of Michigan medical school, and completed her orthopaedic residency at the Detroit Medical Center and her pediatric orthopaedic fellowship at TSRH.

She is a member of the LLRS, POSNA, AOA, and AAOS, the pediatric deputy editor for the Journal of the AAOS, and a coauthor of Tachdjian’s Pediatric Orthopaedics. Dr. Karol is clinically active in limb deformity and lengthening, and is the medical director of the movement science laboratory at TSRH.
