Ankle Distraction – Pre-Op Patient Education with Dr. S. Robert Rozbruch

Ankle Distraction for Treatment of Post-Traumatic Arthritis
Doctor: S. Robert Rozbruch, MD
Patient: Romano

Pre-op: Romano developed painful ankle arthritis years after trauma. X-rays show loss of all cartilage but he had ankle motion that was worth preserving.

Post-op: Romano underwent ankle distraction in 2006. The fixator created space in the ankle for cartilage regeneration and continued motion.

Follow-up: Romano has significant improvement in his pain and joint space 6 years later. He has not required more surgery and is very satisfied with the outcome. He has maintained his ankle motion and has avoided ankle fusion or replacement.
